the american people vent if will you. interesting to me, i just spent a couple days in southeastern virginia for a big piece on cnn.com publishing it tomorrow about sort of what happened in the obama mojo. take virginia. look, there were all of these obamacans. republicans who became obama fans in 2008. they crossed the aisle because they were inspired, just like some democrats were, and thought he was going to change things. i talk to democrats, republicans and independents in southeast virginia. they were basically saying, look, not angry at him. saying, we think he's a good man. we think he's got ideas and is trying, but basically said he tried to do too much too fast in the first 20 months or so, and the second thing they say, it's just a constant political environment, because of the economy. the economic issues, you and gloria were talking about that, frankly it's a throw the bums out kind of mentality. look what a couple voters we talked to, republ >> no matter how he spent his time during office and how well he represented his constituency, unfortunately the majority of citizen whose

at the governors in virginia, the governor's race in new jersey. chris christie won in new jersey, and bob macdonald one in virginia. we won an open seat held by democrat, the national chairman of the democratic party. and that was the big election. those were not the two big elections. you want to talk to the folks who watch political movements in this country, you call michael barone and others, the biggest election -- anybody know? pennsylvania. anybody know what happened in pennsylvania into a dozen 9? it was the most important election. you go back and read the comments from some of these guys, they will talk about it. they will talk about it because it was the most important election, what happened in pennsylvania in 2009? we had seven or eight judicial races. we elect our judges, not a bad idea. particularly what given on -- what went on here in iowa. why the executive offices, these are not very expensive campaign. it's been $200,000, and name recognition is everything. people do not know the position that these people hold. in a sense, in many respects like this race, their party

you look at those numbers in virginia, when you look at them in new jersey, when you look at them in, all states obama carried by his national average or better, you just do the math turning whiter. and i think the question for the future is that the people who are like the -- are the republicans if they get a majority in the house, if they get a strong bargaining position in the senate, are they prepared to advance and perhaps achieve public policies that are going to work as public policy and that are going to commit voter ovations in subsequent elections. i think that's an open question. if they of. it's field politics are not assured of success. i do think however that in more than any other time i've been following polics, voters are open to a vast cut back in the size and scope of government in a way that they haven't had in most past years. they are aware that the obama mocrats have hugely increased it. minority leader john peters called the other day to say let's go back to 2008 spending levels. it's actually at the intelligence staf in the right direction because most people

right. breaking news overnight because this is happening in virginia. a woman has been executed for the first time in almost 100 years. theresa lewis was convicted in 2003 of plotting the murder of her husband and stepson. she apparently wanted their insurance money. she died by lethal injection. lewis' final words were for her stepdaughter. >> miss lewis did make a last statement. she said i just want kathy to know i love her. and i'm very sorry. >> protesters were outside the prison arguing that lewis was treated unfairly, apparently he was very close to the i.q. line where you're not supposed to get executed. police trying to figure out who killed a nicaraguan diplomat in his apartment in the bronx here in new york. he was found on the floor. his throat had been slashed. this just hours before he was scheduled to attend the u.n. general assembly. witnesses say there was a fight in the apartment the night before the murder. police believe he probably knew his killer. >> people filling sandbags now all across southern minnesota and western wisconsin. that's going to happen a
